Day One
January 1, 2023
It’s hard to choose my favorite lyrical gem from P-Funk, one of my favorite groups of all time, because there are just too many. But ‘once upon a time called right now’ has to definitely be in the top five. I don’t know to what degree the copious amount of mind-altering psychedelics ingested by Dr. Funkenstein contributed to the ingenious flow of words that seemed to groove and dance so effortlessly from some original alternate reality on a beam of light through the mirrors of his brain and onto the lyric sheet. I really don’t. But if drugs can make you create like that, should we really just say no?
Just kidding, kids. Drugs are bad. Put that joint down.
Wait. Weed is legal in Michigan now. OK, so maybe just go easy on the crack.
Does anybody even do crack anymore?
Anyway, here we are on Day One of Keith’s Sci-Fi Musings, and I’m so glad you’re here: ‘Here’ being the other side of my brain where the real requisite craziness resides, and not ‘there’, the more serious cranial territory that ponders deep thoughts about politics, the world, and the like. Because ‘this’ ain’t ‘that’.
Except that it kinda is. Because we’re all complicated like that, and it is my firm belief that you can’t completely understand the so-called ‘real world’ without two pairs of peepers; you need the regular set that views things straight on with no deviation, but then you also need that other pair, the funny-looking pair of glasses you keep hidden in the bottom drawer toward the back under the socks. The pair that you most likely don’t want your friends and family to see you wearing because…oh, the horror.
Because these are the glasses that let you see the other side of the sky, as I once heard someone say. And for our purposes here in Keith’s SciFi Musings, these glasses will (hopefully, if we do this thing right) see the other side of Detroit, and occasionally other locales as well. Where we land depends on moods, weather, how much of that mint tea I had that I bought from Morocco, if I’m really awake, and other stuff which we won’t get into here, which is why we probably won’t ever really land.
Because the true point of exploration is to seek, not to find.
Stay tuned. And I hope you will.
